Ambition

This is my submission for the 2018 Yallwest teen writing contest!

That was my story,
but I wanted a different one,
In all its glory,
I wanted it undone.

I let ambition hook me,
and claw its way to the top,
where it controlled my body and mind see,
it only got worse with time, like a junk shop.

I felt the shift,
Slowly everything changed,
I watched my soul lift,
and then it rearranged.

I ignored the signs,
of a blackening heart,
I would stop this design,
if only I was smart.

I lost control,
and now I'm left all alone.
