Tiger Lilly by Jodi Lynn Anderson

Goodreads Summary *NO SPOILERS* Tiger Lilly is a retelling of Peter Pan, and we all know how much I love retellings AND Peter Pan so having them both in one book is a must read for me! This book was really too short for my liking but then again I could read about Peter Pan forever. One thing that caught me off guard from the start was that this book is told from Tinkerbell’s point of view. Which is great because she is a very overlooked character in Peter Pan I feel like (Not including Disney’s fairy series about her). Reading from her point of view was a very interesting take but sometimes I felt like it wasn’t enough. I picked up the book because I thought I would be reading about Tiger Lilly and I was, just not her thoughts and feelings. Which some of it is included but still it was like swimming underwater but never fully reaching the surface. I was there but just barely. With that being said from what I did read of her I liked her complexity. She is suppos

The Madman’s Daughter by Megan Shepherd

Goodreads Summary *NO SPOILERS* This book has me shook. Usually, I jump right into writing my review after I finish a book, but I had to sit and compose myself for a minute after getting done. This book was close to being on my Top 5 2017 list, but it didn’t make it because of some issues I had with the book regarding my personal preferences. Everything about this book was flawless, the writing style, the story, each character, was beautiful. It warmed my heart to read this book because it is a true piece of art. Except, this book had blood and gruesome details that made me queasy. I hate anything to do with doctors or hospitals, especially needles and blood. This book had the latter two in abundance. If I hadn’t liked the rest of this book so much, this review probably would have gone in the opposite direction. The story has a Frankenstein vibe to it, and it also gave me a Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde vibe because of a character and his behavior. I know Goodreads says

Letters to the Lost by Brigid Kemmerer

Goodreads Summary Fans of Kasie West’s P.S. I Like You, and Ava Dellaira’s Love Letters to the Dead, will love this book! I bought this book from BookOutlet because it seemed mildly interesting, and so I could brag that I bought 14 books for $42 (that dang boxing day sale, am I right?) I fully went into this purchase expecting this book to look pretty on my shelves for two years, but I just so happened to read the right book before it. So when I finished Follow Me Back by A.V. Geiger I was looking for something similar, you know the whole “anonymous correspondence” trope. I found it in this book – because duh, the title- and absolutely loved it! But boy did this book make me cry, only at the very end though, so you’re safe readers who hate sad books (I’m talking to you mom). Mostly I was smiling like a crazy woman reading about this adorable love story. There are some clichés in this book, but they are good clichés. Don’t tell me you hate them, clichés are the foundation

Ambition

This is my submission for the 2018 Yallwest teen writing contest! That was my story, but I wanted a different one, In all its glory, I wanted it undone. I let ambition hook me, and claw its way to the top, where it controlled my body and mind see, it only got worse with time, like a junk shop. I felt the shift, Slowly everything changed, I watched my soul lift, and then it rearranged. I ignored the signs, of a blackening heart, I would stop this design, if only I was smart. I lost control, and now I'm left all alone. M.M. Please do not use or copy my work without permission!

Warranties

Look through your glasses with clarity, At this world with no security, What happened to the carefully crafted purity? This world is but a parody, Of the old recipe we all followed merrily. Now we worriedly look around for the enemy, Sitting and waiting for the horrible irony. Where is our transparency? Listen to the eerie cries of the wary, And sneer because they need therapy. If we were daring, we could find a remedy. Instead of this warranty we place on each entity. M.M. Please do not copy or use my work without giving me credit!

Illusions of Happiness

This poem is dedicated to Selena for liking it so much. Prodigal child, Perfect girl, Tell me why you fear the world. Inferior child, Incubus boy, Tell me how you find your joy. Meek adult, Modest man, Tell me who stole your lifespan. Selfish adult, Sinful woman, Tell me when you will become human. Each person is in the midst, Of their own cruel world That they made exist.
