Goodreads Summary *NO SPOILERS* I don’t know if I have ever told you this, but re-tellings of fairy-tales and classics are some of my favorite reads. What makes this book even better is that it is a Peter Pan re-telling! Although it is from Hook’s point of view, this book is still extremely intriguing. I always love tales from the supposed “villain” and this is a darker tale than the original. I really liked this book but if I were to change anything, it would be that we got to read more about Jamie with the pirates. This story focuses more on the relationship Jamie and Peter had as kids, and how Jamie came to hate Peter, and then eventually became Hook. I felt like there could have been a little more of the grown-up pirate and not the lost boy in Peter’s band of wildlings. Goodreads Summary I was so glad to get back into the grishaverse without really being immersed back into it. This book is a book of grishaverse tales, from Ravka to Kerch. They were each so, so good! I loved all of them and couldn’t help but imagine myself as a Fjerdan or Zemeni child growing up on these tales. The best part is that each of them is a fairy tale retelling but with the grisha world influence. You all know how much I love a retelling! And I got six of them in this book! Each of them had a unique spin with a life lesson to go along with it. I know it sounds weird, but these are supposed to be moral tales from the grishaverse and I loved seeing how they all played out. Not to mention this book is ILLUSTRATED!! I mean who doesn’t want beautiful pictures to go along with the story? I especially loved how on each page the art started small and then spread all around the edges with each flip. Goodreads Summary *NO SPOILERS* This story is a tale full of woe and cosplay. Fans of the iconic Princess Cinderella and sci-fi geeks alike will turn into romantics after reading this fun and semi-tragic love story. Although, if you aren’t a fan of fairy-tale spin-offs or damsels in distress, then this book isn’t for you. I had some major issues with this book, from the slow pacing to the characteristic flaws in Elle. I know this is a Cinderella retelling, but I had a hard time getting over the whole ‘helpless princess’ trope. I was okay with her unwillingness to stand up for herself in the beginning, hoping we would see a grand reveal of the fighter underneath. But I was disappointed when Elle continued to give up on herself and her beliefs. Maybe it is just the feminist in me or the fact that I’m surrounded (and constantly inspired) by strong women, but it frustrated me when Elle wouldn’t stand up for herself.
