Bookish Facts About Me!

So, I decided to tell you guys a little bit about myself through book related stuff, so you can get to know me a little better. So, let’s just jump right in!           I would really love to be in Dauntless but I’m probably more Erudite. (Divergent by Veronica Roth)          I’m a SLYTHERIN!!! Yeah!          My patronus is a white swan           I always have at least two books on me at all times           I will read anywhere and everywhere (No joke)           I usually like to get all my reading done during the day, I’m not a huge night owl (Unless it comes to a read-a-thon, then I never sleep)           The first booktuber I ever watched was Katytastic           I’m not quite sure which book or series got me into reading, but I know I love it now!          I have a kitten named Bruce, he doesn’t like for me to read.           I mostly read YA, Fantasy and Sci-Fi. But I’m trying to branch out and read different genres.          I am a really fast reader most of

A Man Called Ove by Fredrik Backman

Image
Goodreads Summary *NO SPOILERS* It was an absolute delight to read about this grumpy old man that deep down has a big heart. After reading My grandmother asked me to tell you she’s sorry I just knew I had to pick this one up. I was not disappointed at all! Ove is so endearing in his own way that it is hard not to enjoy his story. I thought the author was so creative with this story and I loved how everything tied together neatly in the end. This book was as funny as it was heartwarming, in my reading log I gave it 5 hearts! (Like the star system but with hearts for how much I loved it). I kept trying to predict what would happen and it kept throwing me in a completely different direction. The characters in this book were so relatable, and the book so immersive, that I forgot these people weren’t my actual neighbors. This book had such a strong message about the benefits and the power of community. I almost all out bawled while reading parts of this book, not becau

Be Good Be Real Be Crazy by Chelsey Philpot

Image
Goodreads Summary *NO SPOILERS* “For fans of Mosquitoland and Paper Towns ” (Goodreads). That is a bunch of lies! Mosquitoland is one of my all-time favorite books and this one was nothing like it. I honestly don’t know how I even finished this book, it was slow in the beginning but I thought it would pick up. I was wrong, I managed to push through to the end, but I was completely bored the whole time. The story itself was supposed to be of a road trip from Florida to somewhere way up north, but there weren’t any adventures. I picked up this book mainly because it was a road trip book. In these types of books, you expect there to be spontaneous stops and awesome adventures, I didn’t get any of that in this book. I wanted a whole lot more from this book. The originality in this book is nonexistent, but I picked it up because I thought it would be like other road trip books I’ve read. This book was also super predictable and made me not want to read it, because I a

Book Road Trip!

Image
{Credit to Conceptdraw.com} For a long time now I have always wanted to go on a road trip, and then I thought to myself, “What better way to make it more useful than to add books?” Voila! That is how this idea came to life. As a resident of the great state of Florida, that is where I will start. I will then make my way across the country to hundreds of different Indie bookstores and maybe meet up with booktubers and instagramers while I’m en route. I want to save up some cash and then buy at least one book from the bookstores I visit and keep tabs on where I’ve been and what it was like. I’ve had my heart set on going on a road trip for some time now and this just makes it even better! I think this is a great way to discover new books while also travelling and seeing different parts of the country. It would be awesome if I had some friends that would like to come along with me, but none of my friends read ☹ . This is great because every-time I would look at that book it w

All We Have Is Now by Lisa Schroeder

Image
Goodreads Summary *NO SPOILERS* I started this book thinking it will be a story of people helping people, which is great! And it was, but it was so much more than that. This is a powerful piece on regret and what ifs. Lisa does a great job at answering the question “what would you do if you only had 24 hours left?” This book was really moving and got me thinking about all the possibilities there are in life. Its main message is that you will always regret a missed opportunity and that life is too short to waste it. It really came across that you will never know if you don’t try. This book also pointed out that there are multiple issues with our society that we don’t notice until it is too late. I really loved how thought provoking this book was, even though it did tend to seem repetitive. Going into this book I thought it would be a nice beach read that was full of romance, boy was I wrong! I got a book that completely blew my mind and made me take a closer look at the

To All the Boys I've Loved Before by Jenny Han

Image
Goodreads Summary *NO SPOILERS* For the first part of this book all I could think about was how cliché this whole story is, but then when I finished, I realized I didn’t even think about that at all when I got into the book more. It’s written in such a way that it makes you forget that there are a hundred other books with this same plot. This was such a good cliché that I didn’t mind it being cliché. Even though the beginning was slow, I found that I really enjoyed reading this book. My favorite part wasn’t the romance aspect, but the close-knit family they were. I loved how the single father with three girls still made time for family traditions and bonding time with his daughters. The romance was just a bonus, it was hard to choose who I wanted Laura-Jean to be with more: Peter or Josh. This book was so predictable, but it was fun to read and I found myself smiling and giggling like an idiot at certain parts in the story. I even teared up at the end when everyth

Father Appreciation Post

Image
Father’s Day is a special time that we get to celebrate our amazing and loving fathers. Whether that be our actual fathers or just father figures, all dads are equally worthy of our praise. Since this is a book blog I have decided to tie in this holiday with books and make it extra special! Here I have compiled a list of awesome literary dads to celebrate as well as our IRL dads.  In no particular order:         Danny Covey from To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han         Mr. Bennet from Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen         Oliver Sullivan from The 5 th Wave by Rick Yancey          Brimstone from Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor          Hans Hubermann from The Book Thief by Markus Zusak *MILD SPOILERS* (be careful if you haven’t read the above books) As I was going through my mental list of books I have read, I realized finding parents in books is waaayyyy harder than expected. If you know of any deserving literary d

The Lover's Dictionary by David Levithan

Image
Goodreads Summary *NO SPOILERS* “Remarkable… Levithan does the dictionary a great deal of justice, showing that the right words really can say it all, and doing it with an effortless grace.”  - The New Yorker There really is no better way to explain it. This book was a light, quick read that puts into perspective the things that go on in a serious relationship. From the constantly changing emotions to the private vs public relationship. From how it all starts to how it can all end in an instant, and how there can be a shift in feelings that one isn’t fully aware of. I loved the format of this book and all of the new words I learned just from reading these ‘dictionary entries’. Although I had to stop multiple times to look up a word I didn’t know, and stop my flow of reading, it was worth it. I wouldn’t recommend tabbing words you don’t know to look them up later, because you really need to know the definition of the words before reading on to understand the story

This Savage Song by Victoria Schwab

Image
Goodreads Summary *NO SPOILERS* This book is a tale of monsters and monstrous things. Or is it? While reading this book I wanted a little bit more of the monster side of the story. I know I am a sucker for a good villain, and this story didn’t really seem to have one despite it being a world full of monsters. Yes, there were a few characters that were bad throughout the story but none of them were the main bad guy. I also wished there was more world building and a background story as to how this world came to be. There were vague references to the making of this world but I wanted a more in-depth explanation. This story is known for having no romantic relations and I think that was a cool concept, but almost every other book out there has some form of romance in it. I think that this book let me down a little because I am so used to reading about relationships, I forgot this book didn’t have any that were romantic. I did notice that the two main characters formed a bond o

Time Travel

Image
[Credit to WallpaperSafari] Time travel in books can be pretty awesome, but it can also be totally confusing. For me, time travel is a hit or miss when reading a book. Sometimes you get a time travel book that is really good and easy to follow. Sometimes you get a time travel book that you can’t keep up with because there are a million rules to the multiverse. I usually try to stay away from time travel books because I have found them to be rarely good and interesting. Although I do enjoy watching “The Flash” on the CW, this plot has a lot of rules to it as well but maybe it’s just the different medium that makes it less confusing.  A time travel book I have enjoyed is All Our Yesterdays by Cristin Terrill. One title I didn’t like? The Time Machine by H.G. Wells. I felt that The Time Machine was much too confusing and I had a hard time reading it. On the other hand, All Our Yesterdays was much more enjoyable because I didn’t have to take time to stop and think about what w

26 Kisses by Anna Michels

Image
Goodreads Summary *NO SPOILERS* This book is the perfect summer read! It is a light and fluffy romance read that is sure to hook you, I couldn’t put it down! This book was fun and kept a smile on my face. I loved the concept of the book and it was interesting to see where the author took the story. There was so many things she could have done with the plot and I’m glad she wrote it the way she did. I didn’t find myself thinking that I wanted to change anything while I read this book. Although the whole book wasn’t strictly upbeat and romantic the author wrote it to where you got just enough of the bad within the good. For example, pointing out certain problems teens face in society, such as ridicule from peers and the pressures of everyday life. In addition to the love our main character shares with guys, there is also a strong bond and love between friends. Even though this book is about romantic relationships the author also makes it clear that sometimes all the love you

Geekerella by Ashley Poston

Image
Goodreads Summary *NO SPOILERS* This story is a tale full of woe and cosplay. Fans of the iconic Princess Cinderella and sci-fi geeks alike will turn into romantics after reading this fun and semi-tragic love story. Although, if you aren’t a fan of fairy-tale spin-offs or damsels in distress, then this book isn’t for you. I had some major issues with this book, from the slow pacing to the characteristic flaws in Elle. I know this is a Cinderella retelling, but I had a hard time getting over the whole ‘helpless princess’ trope. I was okay with her unwillingness to stand up for herself in the beginning, hoping we would see a grand reveal of the fighter underneath. But I was disappointed when Elle continued to give up on herself and her beliefs. Maybe it is just the feminist in me or the fact that I’m surrounded (and constantly inspired) by strong women, but it frustrated me when Elle wouldn’t stand up for herself. Obviously, her character didn’t have that support like I do and

Classic Controversy

Ah, the age-old question every book lover likes to argue over: “E-book or Physical copy?” I can’t tell you how many times I have seen different variations of this question among the social media sites but no matter how you phrase it, it’s still a huge debate. As for me I read only Physical copies of books. Why? you ask, because for one I’m a student. And where I’m from they don’t allow electronics inside the education area because it is a ‘distraction’ and could be potentially used to play games on instead of actually using it for the enjoyment of reading. I know I’m not the only one that has had to face this trouble and it is frustrating to know your elders think of you as some delinquent that doesn’t care about learning or their future in any way *sigh*. Anyway, there is that obstacle and plus I personally would love to have a library in my house one day. One that the whole family and I can enjoy with plenty of natural sunlight and a coffee/tea maker on the side with lots of comfy

The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett

Image
Goodreads Summary *NO SPOILERS* My first favorite Frances Hodgson Burnett book is A Little Princess and this one just happens to be my second. Burnett is really who got me started on this whole book obsession bandwagon, I still remember the day I checked out A Little Princess in my middle school library. Yep, those were the days of friendship bracelets and my new love for reading. These two aren’t her only books but these are the most notable. I have just recently come across a beautiful edition in the Barnes and Nobles classic children’s edition (go check out my IG @bibliomanic_bookworm).  My thoughts on this book are a little mixed considering I’m biased to her work, but this was an overall good read and would definitely recommend it. So, starting with originality, have I read something like this before? Of course not! This is a classic, the one that everyone else imitates. Although this was a completely original idea for a story, it was also super predictable. Already wi

Introduction Post

My personal style tends to lean more towards YA fantasy and contemporary novels but I am also interested in mystery and thrillers and sci-fi novels. I also love a little poetry here and there. I am constantly looking for a book that can teach me something new and exciting that I can share with all my friends and family and now I get to add you guys to that list! I’m super excited to start this journey with you all and excited to hear your opinions on some of the books and my views on them.
